MOUNTAIN CLIMBING TOUR IN UGANDA
Mountain Elgon 4,321m high of extinct volcano which in pre-historic time stood taller than Kilimanjaro does today. Although the mountain straddles the Kenya boarder its loftiest peak, Wagagai lies within Uganda and is best ascended from the Ugandan side. Spectacular scenery is the main attraction for hikers on this oft-neglected and relatively undemanding mountain. Attitudinal vegetation zones range from montane forest to high moorland studded with the other-worldly giant lobelia and groundsel plants. There are a variety of forest monkeys and small antelopes while the bird checklist topples 300 species.
Itinerary
Day 1:
Kampala / Entebbe to Mbale.Mountain hiking in Uganda tour starts with an early breakfast from the hotel, we shall drive to eastern Uganda, Stop in Jinja and have fun from Bujagali falls that happens to be the source of the Nile where you will experience the supernatural land forms. Lunch and afternoon drive to Mbale via the big plantations of sugarcane and have more panoramic scenery along the way. Dinner and overnight at Mbale resort hotel, Mount Elgon hotel. Meal plan: H/B.
Day 2:
Kapkway-Tutum Camp (2,667m)After your breakfast drive via Sipi, reach Kapkway Exploration Center then head to UWA headquarters. After arranging the guide and porters, with food and camping gear, you start walking up to Tutum Cave Camp (2,667m) through Montane and bamboo forest, Tutum cave is spectacular hidden within the forest. Dinner and overnight at Sipi falls/Black lantern. Meal plan: F/B
Day 3:
Tutum Camp – Kajeri Camp (3,383m))After breakfast proceed with the hike to Kajeri Camp (3,383m) for dinner and overnight. Distance of the day: 17 km. Altitude of the day: 900m.
Day 4:
Kajeri Camp-Mude Camp (3,500m)After breakfast walk slowly down after Muyembe camp to Mude cave Camp (3,500m), where you join the Sasa Trial. Dinner and overnight. Distance of the day: 25 km. Altitude of the day: 120m.
Day 5:
Mude Camp to Wagagai Peak (4,321 m)After breakfast you walk through the moorland zone up to the main peak Wagagai, and return to Mude campsite for dinner and overnight. Distance of the day: 18 km. Altitude of the day: 820m.
Day 6:
Mountain hiking in Uganda: Mude Camp descend to BudadiriThe trekking ends descending to Budadiri, the gate of the national park nearby Mbale.
